Nine Indicted in Columbus Trafficking Case
Indictments allege West Side motel coercion and laundering through local shop.
A Franklin County grand jury indicted nine Columbus-area defendants on 42 counts tied to an alleged human trafficking ring on the city’s West Side, with prosecutors alleging coercion at a North Wilson Road motel and laundering through a nearby flower shop.
On July 10, a Franklin County grand jury returned an indictment charging nine Columbus-area defendants with a combined 42 felony counts tied to an alleged human trafficking ring on the city’s West Side; the filing was entered in Franklin County Common Pleas Court and announced by Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson alongside Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney Shayla D. Favor, who framed the case as a coordinated local prosecution rather than a federal one (The Columbus Dispatch, n.d.; Pomplas, n.d.).
According to prosecutors, the scheme centered on two locations: an Econo Lodge on North Wilson Road, where women were allegedly coerced into commercial sex through the use of narcotics, and Valentine Floral on Eakin Road, where proceeds from that exploitation were allegedly laundered to obscure their source; the conduct, set out in charging documents, was alleged to have run from April 2025 through January 2026 (The Columbus Dispatch, n.d.; Staff, n.d.).
The indictment names Marcus Dwayne Gant, 37; Magon Rae Smith, 46; Raymond Curtis Valentine, 55; John Wesley Gibson II, 42; and Jeremy Ryan Lindsey, 40, all of Columbus; Malik Dada Jackson, 28, of Grove City; Mackenzie Leighann Fitzpatrick, 21, of Columbus; Aimee Lianne Fabin, 43, of Columbus; and Kayla Dejon Wheeler, 35, of Hilliard; the Attorney General’s office identified Gant as the suspected ringleader, and authorities said all nine were in custody at the time charges were announced (The Columbus Dispatch, n.d.; Noelle Horn, n.d.).
All nine defendants were charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, Ohio’s racketeering statute, with layered counts tailored to alleged roles: Gant faced multiple trafficking-in-persons, compelling and promoting prostitution, drug, identity fraud, tampering, and laundering counts; Smith was charged with obstructing justice, a fentanyl-related trafficking offense, and laundering; Valentine with tampering and laundering; Gibson with aggravated drug possession, fentanyl-related trafficking and possession, and laundering; Jackson with cocaine and fentanyl trafficking and possession, aggravated drug offenses, and laundering; Lindsey with fentanyl-related trafficking and possession and laundering; Fitzpatrick with fentanyl-related trafficking and possession, aggravated drug offenses, and laundering; Fabin with promoting prostitution and laundering; and Wheeler with aggravated drug offenses, tampering with evidence, illegal conveyance onto a specified governmental facility’s grounds, possession of a fentanyl-related compound, and laundering (Pomplas, n.d.; Staff, n.d.).
The Central Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force led the investigation that produced the grand jury charges, an interagency team that includes the Columbus Division of Police, the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, local prosecutor’s offices, and service partners; Dublin Police assisted, and the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office is handling the prosecution, which follows separate civil action earlier this year against the North Wilson Road motel (The Columbus Dispatch, n.d.; Noelle Horn, n.d.).
