Nine Indicted in West Columbus Trafficking Case
Task force alleges coercion at motel, laundering through local flower shop.
A Franklin County grand jury indicted nine people in an alleged west Columbus trafficking ring, with prosecutors detailing conduct from April 2025 to January 2026 and listing dozens of felony counts.
A Franklin County grand jury indicted nine people alleged to be part of a west Columbus human trafficking ring, an announcement Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson made jointly with Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney Shayla D. Favor. Filed in Franklin County Common Pleas Court, the case set out conduct spanning April 2025 through January 2026 and, according to the release, resulted in a combined 42 felony charges across the defendants. The same release, detailing counts defendant by defendant, also tallied 65 felonies when itemized, a reflection of overlapping offenses and enhancements that prosecutors will have to prove in court. All nine were in custody at the time of the announcement, and the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office took carriage of the prosecution. Investigators alleged the group used narcotics as leverage, coercing women into commercial sex at an Econo Lodge on North Wilson Road in west Columbus, a hotel identified as a recurring venue for illegal acts. They further alleged that illicit proceeds were washed through Valentine Floral on Eakin Road, a business named in the indictment as the laundering conduit. Property-forfeiture specifications attached to many counts target the instruments and profits of the scheme, indicating a bid to strip the enterprise of cash and assets if convictions follow. Taken together, the filings sketched exploitation and concealment built around a motel and a shop a few miles apart, each tied to a distinct stage of the alleged criminal economy (Ohio Attorney General (.gov), n.d.).
The defendants named were Marcus Dwayne Gant, 37; Magon Rae Smith, 46; Raymond Curtis Valentine, 55; and John Wesley Gibson II, 42. Also indicted were Malik Dada Jackson, 28, of Grove City; Jeremy Ryan Lindsey, 40; Mackenzie Leighann Fitzpatrick, 21; Aimee Lianne Fabin, 43; and Kayla Dejon Wheeler, 35, of Hilliard. Each was identified in the indictment, with age and city where available, and each faced felony counts arising from the same investigation. All remained accused, not convicted, as the matter moved into the pretrial phase in Franklin County (Ohio Attorney General (.gov), n.d.).
The case grew out of the Central Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force, formed under the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission, a multi-agency team that in this matter included the Columbus Division of Police, FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
